Traditionally the yumi bow would have been shot off the hand uni grip as pictured but we can add an arrow rest to the bow if your prefer.
Both the japanese bow yumi and the english longbow are both long in that they are approximately 2 meters in length. The yumi was an important weapon of the samurai warrior during the feudal period of japan. The bow of choice for most kyudo practitioners is the standard bamboo yumiwhich is made today very much the same as it was 500 years ago. Carbon fiber and glass fiber yumi are durable and easy to handle making them relatively easy to use and maintain even for beginners.
It shoots japanese arrows called ya. As used in english yumi refers more specifically to traditional japanese asymmetrical bows and includes the longer daikyū and the shorter hankyū used in the practice of kyūdō and kyūjutsu or japanese archery. Yabusame is the japanese practice of mounted archery. A standard bamboo yumi lacquered bamboo yumi and synthetic yumimade with fiberglass or carbon fiber.
