Samurai Axe Hero
Kintarō holding a carp with an axe masakari.
Samurai axe hero. This artwork and stories depict an axe wielding hero but it s a folktale. Its time for some sake. The name and certain traits of the main character of gin tama gintoki sakata are loosely based on kintarō. Nearby is a giant boulder that was supposedly chopped in half by the boy hero himself.
Sakura unleashed her axe in service to the great conflict. These ghostly warriors have lost their way their humanity. He later changed his name to serve a minamoto as a retainer samurai. The samurai have a name for former executioners like sakura hitokiri manslayers with no heart.
Just like the aramusha the hitokiri has tattoos on some of their armour choices showcasing demons and spirits. It s interesting cause i don t recall any actual historical versions of a war axe employed by the samurai. There is a japanese folk hero named kentaro that uses a masakari and is prominently displayed during their boys week. He s a super strong kid who was raised by a mountain witch in some stories.
I haven t found anything relating to a big axe used by the japanese. A shrine dedicated to the folk hero lies at the foot of mount ashigara in the hakone area near tokyo. This one feels the most likely to be used as inspiration. Sakura s presence on the battlefield spreads a black cloud that can terrify all enemies.
