Even though rick morty is all about being crazy and absurd it still takes less risks and is less serious than bojack therefore it s more appealing in the mainstream media. Plus rick is a portal gun away from just ridding himself from that support system. It hits every emotional note and hits it well.

If i had to choose i d go with the one that makes me cry. Tl dr bojack wins barely on storytelling though both shows excel in very different ways. This is why i ve decided to point out 5 reasons why i think bojack is a better show than rick morty despite not being as popular. Rick also has a much smaller support system around him i feel.

Really depends what you want to watch. Bojack is way more entertaining because there are real consequences in the show many fans are thinking that bojack will follow his hero s footsteps and kill himself at the end of the series which i think is poetic. Essentially it s morty beth and summer bojack has diane princess carolyn hollyhock todd and mr pb in a way. Two very different shows.

Bojack being in a more grounded universe doesn t have that benefit curse. Perhaps that makes sense too. It can t dive into the deep shit that bojack can. Once you get past the first few episodes which are funny but uninspired it becomes one of the best character studies tv has ever seen.

Bojack is more depressing but i would say rick and morty is defiantly darker rick and morty has the fucked up bathroom scene in meeseeks and destroy rick him self is self destructive and mentally abusive to his grandkids son inlaw. Rick and morty is funny but bojacks humor comes from many levels compared to rick and morty and where as rick and morty flirt with heavier themes bojack is anchored in them. Rick and morty is more plot based and has some fucked up ideas of the universe. At least not yet but the a few episode in season 2 and the first episode of season 3 have me hopeful however rick and morty is extremely episodic where as bojack isn t.

And as i said before in bojack there are a multitude of ways humor is used with more versatility. Also the side characters of bojack are way better than the side characters of rick and morty. Bojack is just depressed all the time and is selfish. Rick and morty might often be the more enjoyable show to watch but that s because there are many episodes of bojack that are just so emotionally draining.
